Inspired by a delicate Greek red-figured pyxis of ancient Apulia, the Apulian red-figured waves collection, one of Antiquarian’s signature collections, blends the distinctive ancient Greek enigma and sophisticated designs into three unique, lyrical, and timeless pieces — a pair of earrings, a necklace and a bangle. All embody alluring creativity and idealised charms. The undulating silhouettes of their forms and the well-considered colour combinations, dominated by ruby, onyx, diamond, yellow and orange sapphires, unmistakably deliver the two most significant elements seen on the prototype artwork, articulating prominent classic characters known to ancient Greek, painted pottery lovers.
The 18k yellow gold structures of the Apulian red-figured wave collection, outlined by the smooth, undulating contours, are directly borrowed from the wave border ornamented on the bottom of the original pyxis lid. The wavy, golden-hued 18k metal liners, with smoothly executed wave crests, bring an enticing sense where the gentle sea waves, carrying the splendid sparkles created by the attractive colour contrasts of the luxuriously pavé-set gems, tenderly touch your heart with feminine sensitivity in a delicate, classic shape. Not only does it leave an ethereal impression via the balanced combination of soft structures and bright colours, but the intriguing cultural significance behind it is also brought by the shining ‘waves’ from the deep, remote sea of an archaeological realm. Precious gem stones, carefully selected for their vivid colours and purities, establish well-balanced colour tones, dominated by red, yellow, white, black and orange spectrums. This is truly evocative of the iconic colours presented on ancient Greek, Etruscan and Apulian red-figured or black-figured potteries, on which figural images are either painted in reddish-ochre pigments against a black ground or are silhouetted in black slips against a red field. On ancient Italian adated painted pottery, jewellery and headdress ornaments are introduced with bright yellow and white pigments. The numerous diamonds and vivid pavé-set yellow sapphires employed on this collection, aesthetically attempt to reflect the innovative fashion created by ancient Southern Italian painters.
The Apulian red-figured waves collection reflects Antiquarian’s most distinctive design flair, where its mastery steers between the extremes of glamorous appearances and rich archaeological significance can be clearly seen on this collection.
